Teknik pengumpulan datanya menggunakan teknik kuesioner. Objek penelitiannya adalah persepsi mahasiswa terhadap diksi lirik lagu nasyid Brothers. Subjek penelitiannya adalah mahasiswa PBSI UMS yang belajar tentang diksi. Sumber datanya adalah lirik lagu nasyid Brothers. Data yang digunakan adalah diksi lirik lagu nasyid Brothers. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan persepsi mahasiswa terhadap diksi lirik lagu nasyid Brothers dan memaparkan persepsi mahasiswa terhadap fungsi lagu tersebut. Modeling language-in- context theoretically, describing and applying the model in question in various areas of human activity have been the trademark of Systemic Functional Linguistics Theory (SFLT). The interesting development of systemic functional linguistics theory in Malinowski and Firth’s time was the attention paid to the study of the inter-relatedness of language and context in theory and practice. His works were subsequently developed by Halliday, whose theory of language-in- context is generally known as systemic functional linguistic (SFL).
Firth (1935) developed Malinowski’s concepts of context of situation and context of culture. This theory is based on Firth’s system structure theory.
SFL was developed by Halliday (1985) a professor of linguistics from university of Sidney, Australia. Systemic Functional Linguistic (SFL) is a theory about language as a resource for making meaning based on a context of situation and a context of culture. Penelitian ini menghasilkan temuan bahwa Perang Krimea memberi pengaruh yang cukup signifikan pada keberadaan eksistensial dan sosial masyarakat Rusia seperti yang direfleksikan dalam novel The Gambler. Metode penelitian deskriptif analisis digunakan untuk memberikan analisis yang mendalam terhadap isu-‐isu terkait. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan sosiologi-‐eksistensial dengan dasar bahwa manusia selalu memberikan makna dan bertanggung jawab atas setiap tindakan atau pilihan-‐pilihan hidupnya, tetapi hal tersebut tidak terlepas dari sistem sosial tempat ia berada. Yang pertama adalah mengenai nasionalisme bangsa Rusia dan sentimen mereka terhadap orang Eropa yang kedua membahas perjudian dan kaitannya dengan pergulatan ekonomi dan kelas sosial yang ketiga membahas eksistensi tokoh utama wanita yang ditampilkan dalam novel tersebut. Ada tiga masalah yang dibahas dalam penelitian ini. Masalah yang diangkat dalam The Gambler terkait dengan peristiwa bersejarah di Rusia, yaitu perang Krimea.

However that may have been, the young man was by no means despondent and succeeded in getting work, at first giving sixpenny lessons and afterwards getting paragraphs on street incidents into the newspapers under the signature of "Eye-Witness." These paragraphs, it was said, were so interesting and piquant that they were soon taken. It must be noted that he did not even attempt to communicate with his father, perhaps from pride, from contempt for him, or perhaps from his cool common sense, which told him that from such a father he would get no real assistance. As Yefim Petrovitch had made no provision for the payment of the tyrannical old lady's legacy, which had grown from one thousand to two, it was delayed, owing to formalities inevitable in Russia, and the young man was in great straits for the first two years at the university, as he was forced to keep himself all the time he was studying. But neither Yefim Petrovitch nor this teacher was living when the young man finished at the gymnasium and entered the university. Ivan used to declare afterwards that this was all due to the "ardour for good works" of Yefim Petrovitch, who was captivated by the idea that the boy's genius should be trained by a teacher of genius. Precisely why, but he left the family of Yefim Petrovitch when he was hardly thirteen, entering a Moscow gymnasium and boarding with an experienced and celebrated teacher, an old friend of Yefim Petrovitch.
